The news from Africa is far worse: aid organizations are sounding the alarm about the threat of new and greater famines. The war against Ukraine and the associated crop failures are to blame. Although we are currently feeling how fragile the global supply system is, huge quantities of food continue to end up in the garbage. However, it&#8217;s very easy to do something about it &#8211; with a free app that saves not only the climate but also money.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<span style=\"font-size: 120%;\">The Copenhagen-based startup Too Good To Go (TGTG) offers unsold food via an app. The principle is simple: sandwiches from the bakery or unconsumed vegetables from the neighboring restaurant are offered via the app at a significantly reduced price before closing time &#8211; and can be picked up. Since its launch in March 2016, the movement has been growing steadily. In Germany, almost 14,000 caf\u00e9s, restaurants, supermarkets, bakeries, and hotels are currently part of it. More than seven million people use the app.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<span style=\"font-size: 120%;\">Why do we think this is a good idea? Food waste fuels global warming dramatically: According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), up to 4.4 billion tons of greenhouse gases end up in the atmosphere as a result of wasted food. Furthermore, using the Too-Good-To-Go app is also an effective tool in the fight against plastic waste. A mindful glance at your next shopping trip is all it takes: most food packaging contains plastics.
