DipX is a highly effective coral dip designed to safely introduce new corals and live rocks into your aquarium. A simple 15-minute bath in DipX before placing new coral in your reef environment drives away unwanted “hitchhikers,” helping to maintain the delicate balance and safety of your reef ecosystem.

New corals often harbor tiny, hidden creatures within their crevices—these “hitchhikers” are usually invisible to the naked eye but can migrate to other corals, causing damage to your fragile reef. While traditional methods like freshwater dips, iodine treatments, or household disinfectants repel some pests, they do not eliminate all threats.

After extensive research and testing in infested coral tanks, Red Sea developed DipX—a unique blend of essential oils that effectively repels a wide range of coral pests without using inorganic disinfectants. This innovative formula is safe for all types of corals, including SPS, LPS, soft corals, Zoanthids, mushroom anemones (Discosoma and Ricordea), and live rocks.

Key benefits of DipX include:

  • Effectively drives away Acropora-eating flatworms, Montipora-eating nudibranchs, Acropora Red Bugs, and other coral “hitchhikers.”
  • Helps slow down Rapid Tissue Necrosis (RTN) and Slow Tissue Necrosis (STN) when used as an external bath.
  • Free from inorganic elements such as potassium iodide or bromide, ensuring coral safety.
  • Easy to use, reliable, and cost-effective for reef hobbyists.

In natural reef environments, tiny coral-associated invertebrates—known as “opportunistic dwellers”—live in symbiosis with corals and reef rocks. These include crustaceans, worms, echinoderms, nudibranchs, and snails. While many dwellers coexist harmlessly or even beneficially with their coral hosts, some feed on coral tissue, causing damage. In the wild, their populations are controlled by limited nutrients and natural predators. However, when corals are transplanted, these dwellers often hitch a ride, becoming a threat in your aquarium.

To protect your reef and ensure healthy coral growth, use DipX as a trusted solution to eliminate these hidden pests and maintain a thriving marine environment.

For help identifying potential hitchhikers on your corals, see the Hitchhikers identification guide.
