This fourth volume in the series, Along The San Joaquin, returns from the later 20th century story of my parents to recount how her family, the Mandariches, came to their new land in a new century. The story of three immigrant peasant brothers from the Austro-Hungarian Empire continues with an integrated account of their families into the 21st century. The narrative is driven by the collection of a thousand family photographs which has come down to the author, of which about a third are included in this book. Where photographs are lacking for important events with which at least some of those brothers’ grandchildren are acquainted, those elements have been included in the story, with indications of whether these are legally documented, or are a part of the oral history which, long or short, all families possess. The primary purpose, of this volume as of the entire series, is to provide for the next generations some sense of who they are because of whence they have come. While the series is intended for family descendants, it may also provide interesting material revealing the nature of family and of immigrant life in 20th-century America in general, and particularly in California’s San Joaquin Valley..
