bleed launches flustix-certified plastic-free streetwear – a stand against fast fashion & plastic waste

Berlin, October 2021. The independently tested and certified hoodie and T-shirt collection from bleed is built on verified freedom from plastic. From the care label to the seams to the print: these sustainable garments do without plastic entirely. Instead they use purely ecological materials such as organic cotton and Tencel yarn in place of the usual polyester. With flustix certification, bleed takes a stand against the environmentally damaging and exploitative tendencies of fast fashion.
Estimates suggest that 230 million garments are shredded or incinerated in Germany because they cannot be sold. On top of that, 110,000 tonnes of used clothing are burned every year because they cannot be recycled. “The fast fashion industry is one of the main drivers of plastic production and a major source of plastic waste. With this plastic-free shirt and hoodie collection we are showing that there is another way,” says bleed founder Michael Spitzbarth.
The shirt and the hoodie are produced within the EU, are particularly easy to recycle thanks to their freedom from plastic, and are independently tested, certified and licensed, so that consumers can be confident in their sustainable purchases. At EUR 39.90 per shirt and EUR 79.90 per hoodie the garments sit in the mid-price segment and are available online at https://www.bleed-clothing.com.

bleed – inspired by protecting resources
The Upper Franconian clothing manufacturer bleed has been making sustainable, ecological, vegan and fair clothing since 2008 – garments that not only stand up to the wild skateboard stunts of founder Michael Spitzbarth, but are also meant to ease the suffering the textile industry inflicts on nature. After his design studies Michael Spitzbarth worked as a freelancer for various clothing companies, which gave him a comprehensive and at the same time alarming insight into how the textile industry operates. It quickly became clear to him that nature had bled enough for humankind and that something urgently had to change. For more than 10 years his goal has been “to get people of every age onto the green wave through good style and without a wagging finger.”
flustix – the seal for genuine plastic sustainability
flustix is the only independent, internationally recognised seal for plastic sustainability. Before a product may carry a flustix seal it has to pass through the “independent trinity”: independent testing (Wessling Group), independent conformity assessment (DIN CERTCO/TÜV) and independent licensing. All products are also listed online and can be traced transparently by anyone in just a few clicks. Malte Biss, founder of flustix: “Through independent certification we give consumers reliable guidance for reduced-plastic consumption, we protect the environment and we help innovative businesses communicate their sustainability when it comes to plastics. We are delighted to take a stand together with bleed against the still all too careless handling of fast fashion.”
About flustix
flustix offers labelling in the field of plastic sustainability. Together with Wessling and DIN CERTCO (TÜV Rheinland), the flustix PLASTIC-FREE seals certify the complete product (packaging and contents), the product itself, products without microplastics as well as plastic-free packaging. flustix also runs two circular economy seals: flustix RECYCLED states the percentage of recycled material in products and packaging. flustix RECYCLABLE verifies the recyclability of packaging and shows it at the point of sale. This makes sure that the packaging can stay in the loop later on instead of simply being incinerated. The flustix seals serve as guidance for consumers and support companies pursuing a sustainability-oriented corporate strategy. flustix was founded in 2017 and is headquartered in Berlin.
