Not every pack can be redesigned at once. Online claims, marketing material, open orders and internal evidence can still be reviewed and corrected straight away. What matters now is the order of work.
Since 27 September 2026 the new rules on environmental claims also apply to goods produced, ordered or shipped long before. There is no general sell-through period. For genuine transitional problems, however, Europe’s consumer authorities have described a proportionate approach.
Since 12 August 2026 three PFAS limits apply to food contact packaging. A total fluorine analysis can be a sensible screening step. On its own, however, it is not enough as proof of conformity.
There is no general EU list of accepted sustainability labels. For retailers a different question therefore matters more: is the claim behind the mark clearly defined, independently checked and available as evidence at short notice?
The first major PPWR milestones fall in 2030. For many packs, however, the decisive choices are being made today: in design, in new tooling, in material approvals and in long-term supply contracts.
Data sheets often merge PCR and PIR into a single recycled content figure. For the PPWR minimum quotas that total is not what counts. There, material from post-consumer plastic waste counts, that is PCR.
For recycled content the evidence decides the Plastic Packaging Tax. For PFAS, new requirements are emerging for monitoring, procurement and product testing. Both lead to the same question: can the claim be substantiated for the actual product?
