Press release: flustix certifies the first plastic-free T-shirt
Berlin, February 2020. Fast fashion is OUT – fair and environmentally conscious fashion is IN. Although well-known textile brands make “sustainability” promises ever more frequently, consumers have few ways of telling sustainable fashion apart from dubious “greenwashing” claims. Now flustix, as the only protected seal for labelling plastic sustainability, has certified the first plastic-free T-shirt.

Dario Grünenfelder, co-founder of MUNTAGNARD, explains: “We are proud of our Legna T-shirts made from wood fibres, and we are delighted that flustix’s plastic-free certification lets us give our customers proof that we do without plastic entirely.” Malte Biss, founder and CEO of flustix, adds: “So far there have been hardly any plastic-free products in the textile industry. Whether in seams, labels or stretch content: plastics are worked in everywhere out of sight, making fashion hard or almost impossible to recycle. We are delighted that MUNTAGNARD is proving to the industry that it is possible to find alternatives.” The certified MUNTAGNARD T-shirt also shows that sustainability and beautiful clothing need not be a contradiction. The quality of the shirt is convincing, the cut is functional and it is comfortable to wear. It is more breathable than cotton and less prone to odours than polyester. So far the T-shirt is available in white and black for women and for men.
High standards for the T-shirt made from wood fibres
Both the fabric and the sewing thread consist of 100% Tencel®, a natural material made from wood fibres of certified origin. MUNTAGNARD does without a label on the T-shirt, because all the important information appears as a water-based print in the yoke (the area below the neck). Alongside its ambition to protect the environment when manufacturing the T-shirts, the Swiss brand also pursues high social standards throughout the production chain. Fibre production, spinning, embroidery, dyeing and making-up are likewise located in Europe, and MUNTAGNARD’s clothing is produced to the highest sustainability standards.
