KHK: microplastic-free lip care certified

Berlin, August 2020. Demand for genuinely microplastic-free cosmetics keeps rising. More and more suppliers are therefore meeting consumers’ wish for microplastic-free care products and relying on the only independent certification of its kind, the flustix seals – which provide assurance and build trust. The latest example is KHK GmbH of Cologne, a specialist and white-label as well as promotional products supplier for lip care. It has received the flustix microplastic-free seal for the verifiably plastic-free formulation of its vegan natural cosmetic “LipNature Vanille Soft”, which forms the basis for various private label products and promotional items.

“Cosmetics is a sensitive subject. Recognised seals and certificates can build trust here. In our experience, consumers pay increasing attention to cosmetics being free from microplastics,” says Dr Sivatharushan Sivanathan, head of research and development at KHK. The company specialises in manufacturing promotional products and cosmetics for the private label segment. “All our sustainable products have seen an enormous increase, in the cosmetics market as well as in the promotional products market,” says Carolin Haverkamp, head of sales at KHK.

The natural cosmetic “LipNature Vanille Soft”, certified by flustix as free from microplastics, is filled into jars and into the Lipcare Eco lip balm stick. For KHK the flustix certification is another element in product development geared towards sustainability. The company’s in-house laboratories developed the first natural cosmetic lip care more than 10 years ago; a vegan formulation followed in 2014, and a Fairtrade certified one three years later. KHK also attaches great importance to sustainable materials in its packaging.

The seal “flustix – product content without microplastics” certifies products, in particular cosmetics and personal hygiene articles, that manage without microplastics. Across the EU, microplastics are defined as solid, insoluble synthetic plastics smaller than five millimetres, which are not seldom deliberately added to cosmetics. “KHK has been proving for years that sustainability is a decisive USP in cosmetics. We are delighted to certify the first product from a white-label supplier and thereby guarantee assurance to business customers when selling their products and to consumers at the point of sale,” says Malte Biss, founder of flustix.
