Who arranges the laboratory testing behind an environmental claim?

Responsibility sits with the company making the claim. In practice the testing is organised through the certification programme, in this order.

• Enquiry and quote: usually within two to three working days, depending on programme and product scope.
• Documents and samples: formulation, construction, materials, supply chain, and depending on the programme a sample or an audit.
• Measurement: in a laboratory accredited to ISO/IEC 17025, with the method that fits the property.
• Conformity assessment: by a certification body to ISO/IEC 17065, not by the laboratory and not by flustix.
• Certificate and entry: licence number, scope and publication in the certification database.

Depending on programme and product this takes four to twelve weeks.

Why not simply commission a laboratory yourself

You can, and the result is a test report on the sample submitted. For internal documentation that may be enough. As soon as it becomes a claim towards customers or consumers, three things are missing: assessment against a published programme, ongoing monitoring, and verifiability by third parties.
