Who issues a PFAS-free certificate for food packaging?

A certificate is issued by a certification body, on the basis of a published programme and a laboratory analysis. The laboratory itself does not issue a certificate, it supplies the measurement.

What is assessed

For food contact packaging the PPWR limits have applied since 12 August 2026: 25 ppb for any individual PFAS in targeted analysis, 250 ppb for the sum of PFAS determined by targeted analysis, and 50 ppm for PFAS including polymeric PFAS. Total fluorine content is not the same as PFAS content.

How it works at flustix

The flustix PFAS-FREE programme uses targeted analysis together with a total fluorine parameter, with its own limits per product group, as a rule 10 to 25 ppb per target substance or stricter. Measurement takes place in laboratories accredited to ISO/IEC 17025, conformity is assessed by a body to ISO/IEC 17065. The result is a certificate with a licence number, publicly searchable in the certification database.

What is not a certificate

A self-declaration of being PFAS-free without a programme and without independent assessment. Towards consumers it has been open to challenge since 27 September 2026, and in a dispute what counts is whether the claim is substantiated.
