As part of the revision of the flustix certification programmes, the claims have been refined, and essential additional information has been directly integrated into the seals. The new claim, “flustix LESS PLASTICS – MIN. xx% PLASTIC-FREE”, not only provides licensees with the highest level of security but also ensures future-oriented compliance with recently implemented and upcoming guidelines, regulations, or directives. Absolute transparency for end consumers! With this refinement, flustix has adhered to the already adopted Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive (ECGT) and pre-empted the forthcoming Green Claims Directive (GCD).
“Achieving 100% plastic-free marketable mass products has not been feasible and remains unlikely to become viable for serial production in the foreseeable future,” states flustix founder Malte Biss.
The stringent requirements for obtaining the seals remain unchanged: the limits have stayed as strict as before. In addition, the scope of testing has been expanded. flustix has partnered with additional testing facilities that, thanks to the latest testing methods, such as the TED-GC/MS method, can detect and quantify polymers in a wide range of materials with even greater precision. This elevates the quality of certification and proof of compliance to the currently highest international standard.
This refinement supports all licensees in working with secure claims over the long term. At the same time, flustix continues to pursue a quantitative approach to promote sustainable handling of the valuable resource of plastic, support the circular economy, and ensure clarity and comparability.
The flustix Seals
flustix PRODUCT CONTENT MICROPLASTIC-FREE has complied with the requirements of the revised REACH Regulation since early 2024, following the update in September 2023.
flustix LESS PLASTICS | PACKAGING – MIN. 95% PLASTIC-FREE meets the requirements of the PPWR, soon to be published in the Official Journal of the European Union. For example, packaging with at least 95% plastic-free main material can be safely and transparently labelled with this seal. This enables producers to meet extended producer responsibility (EPR) obligations and provide consumers with valuable recycling and disposal guidance to promote the circular economy.
flustix LESS PLASTICS | PRODUCT – MIN. 99.25% PLASTIC-FREE complies with key provisions of the SUPD in many European countries due to the revision and secures claims under the Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive and the forthcoming Green Claims Directive.
flustix RECYCLED – DIN geprüft, our circularity seal, remains unchanged. It continues to certify the use of recyclates in products, semi-finished goods, and packaging across different materials. This certification is internationally recognised as proof under the PPWR or in countries with national plastic taxes for producers.
flustix RECYCLABLE has been updated to include the requirements of the PPWR. Thanks to the groundwork of the German Minimum Standards, these adjustments are minimal, and the seal is fully available for certifying the recyclability of packaging. In practice, flustix RECYCLABLE has also gained international recognition as proof in countries with plastic taxes for producers.
The development of the programmes and claims was a complex process successfully tackled in collaboration with our certification partners and laboratories. Equally valuable were the invitations from the environmental ministries in Canada and Hong Kong, which requested flustix’s contribution to developing future regulations and directives for their markets, modelled on the European PPWR and SUPD. These collaborations have further enhanced flustix’s ability to understand and incorporate international perspectives and considerations.
Through these efforts, flustix strengthens the market position of its licensees and ensures reliable proof of compliance, providing the necessary security for claiming—today and in the future.

About flustix
The organisation, founded in Berlin in 2017, offers six distinct flustix seals: The flustix LESS PLASTICS – MIN. xx% PLASTIC-FREE seals certify, in collaboration with recognised testing laboratories and accredited certification bodies, the entire product as well as either its packaging or the product itself. Products that refrain from using microplastics are transparently labelled with the PLASTIC-FREE – Product Content Microplastic-Free seal. The flustix RECYCLED – DIN geprüft seal certifies recyclates, semi-finished goods, and products with recycled content, including plastics, metals, and glass. flustix RECYCLABLE independently communicates the recyclability of packaging. The flustix seals serve as a guide for consumers and thereby support companies in pursuing a sustainability-focused business strategy and ensuring credible sustainability communication.
